These New Chinese 'Burkinis' Are Terrifying

The 'burkini' has made a lot of headlines recently after its appearance in the Rio Olympics and the controversial decision to ban it on French beaches.

But did you know that an enterprising designer in Qingdao has also created a suit that is quite similar to the burkini?

Yep, to celebrate the sixth edition of the infamous 'Facekini,' Zhang Shifan has created special Peking Opera-themed body suits with matching Facekinis, because a plain old Facekini is just sooooo 2012. Can you say 'Upgrade'?

Don't worry, men. Zhang's got you *covered* too:

Not a Peking Opera aficionado? Check out these special edition animal prints, each of which are supposed to resemble ten of the world's most endangered species, including pandas, Siberian tigers and gorillas.

There's even a tribute to Harambe (RIP):

Zhang says that she'll continue improving the suits in hopes of one day making them go abroad into mainstream fashion circles. With luxury Facekinis already on the market, that could very well be in the near future.

According to the New York Times, the recent scandal over the burkini ban in France has generated some discussion online in China.

Poking fun at the ban, state-run newspaper the People's Daily wrote on its official Weibo account: “Armed police in France forced a Muslim woman to take off her conservative swimsuit. Where are their human rights?"
